Who am I in Christ?
It’s one of the most important questions the new born believer must ask himself; even if he does it after 20 years of being a Christian. We are going to check what God Word says about us and what consequences it has for us.
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” Ro3:21-24
What everyone can see in this scripture is “free justification” and “redemption by grace”. All this happened by the person of Jesus Christ. And without any doubt it is the basic truth of that verse. So our sins are removed “freely” and God looks at us as we have never sinned! He has completely forgotten them but He didn’t stop there and he gave us his righteousness as a gift-“God’s righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ for all believers”!
So truly you are not a sinner any more but God’s Righteousness! You may ask yourself - that’s great but I still sin. Yes it’s also the truth that here on Earth sin still can happen in our life. I used the word “happen” for a purpose. I didn’t mean the situation when someone sins consciously and is not interested in changing it, being not familiar with the word “repentance” at all.
A man consists of the spirit soul and body. And when God’s righteousness came into your life through the person of Jesus it is settled in your spirit. Now your spirit is alive, connected with God and filled with his righteousness. But as you remember we have also our soul and body which for years were practising wrong deeds. They had really a good practice in doing it! So now the time comes to train our soul (mind, will and emotions) in completely reverse behaviour.
We have to force her to walk in God’s Righteousness. And that is what we call aiming at holiness. It’s the change of our old nature for the new one. It demands your effort and your time. So we become holy but we are righteous. If you straight after having committed sin come to the Cross that sin does not rule over you any more and in God’s eyes you are His Righteousness.
And not God only sees it but also the Devil does and he is afraid of you the same way he is afraid of Jesus. You can think it’s impossible. But it’s not! Firstly our righteousness comes from God; so it’s the same one Jesus has. The Devil can’t see you - he sees God’s Righteousness. Demons say about you “God’s holy one” the same way as they use to say about Jesus. Secondly Jesus said the following words:
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Mt 28:18-19
“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Mt 18:18
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Lk 10:19
Jesus transferred his authority here on Earth to us. Wherever we go and whatever we do, we do it in His Name and His Authority. We sit in the heavenly realms together with Christ.
“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:” Ef 2:6
It’s the position of power and authority. As you remember Jesus sits at the right hand of God, he sits on the throne and we together with him.
“For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” Ro 5:17
All we are going to do we have to do in His Name and His Authority. It makes no difference for demons to hear Jesus or to hear us. For them it’s the same terrifying authority they have to submit to! The only thing devil can do is to lie to you that you haven’t any authority or that it doesn’t work for you the way it worked for Jesus. He is often successful in it - Christians buy it. You may think if it’s true why devil doesn’t flee from me I’m still fighting the same battles all and over again. That’s because he flees from those who oppose him.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Jas 4:7
Look what the God’s Word says! It doesn’t say he only steps aside or pretend he flees from you! And that means he really has to be frightened of you! So believe in the authority given to you by Jesus, receive it by faith and at last start to use it! The devil will not flee from those who aren’t aware of who they are and don’t practise their authority on daily basis. So oppose him strong in faith and reject sin, unbelief, doubts. Then fulfil whole plan God has for you!
The authority is not all we have. We are also heirs of God’s Kingdom.
“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Gal 4:6-7
God has pleasure in giving you kingdom! The fact you are an heir means that it’s also your Kingdom! God shares with you his indivisible property, his Kingdom. After all you are his son or daughter and which father doesn’t want to lavish his gifts on his children? Which good father doesn’t pass to his children what belongs to him? Remember also that we will reign after our death as well. And how you can be a king without a kingdom? But it’s still not enough for God! It may seem much for you (and you’re surely right) but it’s still too little for God. Let’s read the next verse from Galatians:
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Gal. 3.13-14
Let’s analyse what it’s written here. Christ redeemed us (me and you) from the curse (becoming the curse for us) in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles (that means you and me) through Christ Jesus (those who are in Jesus-new born people). Summarising: Jesus took all curses with him on the cross in order that all the blessing Abraham had might come on you.
This blessing is already included in the cross! If you belong to Jesus the blessing is yours! And you may ask again “why can’t I see it in my life?” Most often the reason for it is the lack of knowledge of what the Word says about your right to have this blessing. Then it’s out of unbelief and the final reason is not accomplishing the terms of the blessing!” The main term is:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Mt. 6:33
And the last thing I’d like to mention in this teaching is the healing. As you probably presume it’s also included in the Cross
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Iz 53:5
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Pe. 2:24
“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” Mt. 8:16-17
All the sickness and infirmity was taken by Jesus on the cross. It doesn’t matter how deadly your sickness is. Jesus bought you the right to a complete healing; it already happened on the cross. All what you have to do now is to receive it and to reject all the sickness!
Don’t receive any lie from the Devil! Don’t agree on any inherited diseases, or infectious ones or those that “everyone has to come through’. You don’t have to! You are redeemed by Christ! And as in previous cases it`s mainly the matter of your faith in the specific verse of God’s Word.
